Silvio Berlusconi hospitalized with painful, swollen knee (ANSA) - Milan, April 4 - Ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi underwent medical exams on Friday and canceled a campaign meeting in Turin after hospitalization for painful inflammation in his left knee.

ANSA was told the centre-right leader will undergo a CAT scan or an MRI at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan after spending the night there.

The outcome of the exam will determine if the billionaire media mogul will remain longer in the hospital.

An election meeting which Berlusconi was scheduled to attend in Turin on Monday has been canceled, said Gilberto Pichetto, regional coordinator for Berlusconi's Forza Italia party (FI).

"The president told us that he wanted to try to recover by Monday," he said. "We believe in any case that it is right to protect his health, postponing the Piedmont appointment to another date".
