Lufthansa cancels 3,800 flights over strike threat (ANSA) - Rome, March 31 - Germany's largest airline Lufthansa on Monday announced it would cancel 3,800 flights from Wednesday through Friday in anticipation of a pilots' strike.

Vereinigung Cockpit, the union that represents most of Lufthansa's 5,400 pilots, had warned last week that it intended to hold a three-day strike beginning April 2 over Lufthansa's plans to eliminate early retirement.

The carrier said that most of its flights would be affected, costing it tens of millions of euros.
