Renzi bashes Grillo at PD meeting

'The M5S talks while we resolve'

Renzi bashes Grillo at PD meeting (ANSA) - Rome, March 28 - Italian Premier Matteo Renzi on Friday told a meeting of his center-left Democratic Party (PD) that the opposition 5-Star Movement (M5S) was "trailing behind" as it allegedly runs out of reasons to complain. "It's in trouble...because its harping on issues to which it used to lay exclusive claim, but not anymore. They talk, we resolve," said Renzi. Since coming into office last month, Renzi's government has moved quickly to introduce a series of reforms meant to jumpstart the economy and reverse growing unemployment, which stands at a record 12.9%, and well over 40% among youth. His approval numbers have been high as a result, while those of the anti-establishment M5S and its leader, comedian-turned-politician Beppe Grillo, have trailed. But a new poll on Friday showed Renzi's popularity beginning to slip, while Grillo's was on the rise. Analysts expect his party, the second biggest in Italy, to do well at European Parliament elections in May, riding on a Euroskeptic ticket. A poll showed Friday that 43% of Italians wish to leave the euro.
