Small demos do not disrupt president's visit

27 March, 11:31
Protests before Obama's arrival in Vatican (ANSA) - Rome, March 27 - Some small protests took place in the area of the Vatican before United States President Barack Obama's meeting with Pope Francis on Thursday but they did not disrupt the visit.

An Italian national was detained during an unauthorized protest for Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist who is serving two murder sentences in the US for the shooting of two FBI agents, despite doubts about the fairness of the trial.

There was also a protest by environmentalists calling for Obama to oppose the expansion of the Keystone oil pipeline in the United States and Canada.
