EU must respond to 'sense of anti-politics' says Renzi (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, March 24 - Premier Matteo Renzi on Monday called on Europe to "respond to a widespread sense of protest and anti-politics" following far-right victories in French local elections. Speaking from The Hague, Renzi said the EU must "put economic growth and the fight on unemployment" in center stage.

He went on to call the National Front's wins in France "significant," likening them to recent "protest" votes in Italy.

Last year the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) roared to second place in national elections. Its refusal to ally with other parties forced the government to a grinding halt that lasted for two months. Groups like the M5S and the right-wing Northern League are expected to do well at European Parliament elections in May.
