FI whip says he can't imagine Berlusconi out of campaign (See related) (ANSA) - Rome, March 19 - It is "unimaginable" that ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi, leader of Forza Italia (FI), won't run in May's European elections, FI Senate whip Paolo Romani said Wednesday.

He spoke in an interview with television network Sky TG24 a day after Italy's highest appeals court upheld a two-year ban from office on Berlusconi over a definitive tax-fraud conviction.

Romani said Berlusconi was important to election reform.

Berlusconi has been working on that with Premier Matteo Renzi and in so doing, attempting to forge a reputation as an effective reformer.

Romani said Berlusconi's name would still feature on FI electoral lists and campaign posters.

"We can write what we want on our symbol and we mean to identify Forza Italia with Berlusconi", Romani said. Berlusconi, 77, was ejected from the Senate in November.
