Berlusconi daughter 'won't stand in EP elections'
'Family has always denied' Marina or Barbara run says Toti19 March, 16:14
(ANSA) - Rome, March 19 - Silvio Berlusconi's top advisor on Wednesday quashed speculation one of the media magnate's two daughters might stand in the European Parliament elections after the centre-right Forza Italia (FI) leader was barred because of a tax-fraud conviction.
"The family has always denied (this) and I have no knowledge of it," said Giovanni Toti.
On Tuesday Italy's supreme court upheld a two-year ban from office for the three-time premier, who was also barred from voting.
The Italian press and some FI members have suggested Berlusconi's elder daughter Marina, 47, a top executive at his media empire, or Barbara, 29, a CEO of his AC Milan soccer club, might run in his stead.
Charismatic conservative chief Berlusconi, 77, is leading the FI campaign from outside parliament, having been ejected from the Senate in November.
