(ANSA) - Rome, March 18 - Italian Premier Matteo Renzi voiced "a father's grief" over a four-year-old boy accidentally killed in a Puglian Mob hit Tuesday.

"An awful pain, as a father as well as premier," Renzi tweeted after the boy was shot dead in his mother's arms in the front of a moving car on a motorway near Taranto.

Police said it was a vendetta murder of the woman's partner driving the vehicle, a member of the local mafia, the Sacra Corona Unita (United Holy Crown).

He was not the boy's father, who died in a revenge killing a few years ago.

The mother had testified against her husband's killer, police said. Two children in the back seat were not hit.
