Lent 'time to change life' says pope
'Basta' to 'hypocrites disguised as saints'18 March, 13:05
Lent, he said, is a time "to adjust one's life to get closer to the Lord".
The pope warned against "feeling you are better than others".
Hypocrites, he told a Mass in the Vatican, "dress up as good people...they disguise themselves as saints".
There was no place in the Church for them, he said, exclaiming 'Basta'. "They don't understand that no one is righteous by himself...and we all need to be justified". Francis was speaking in St Martha's House, the Vatican hostel he lives in, eschewing the grand papal apartments. Lent is the period of self-denial and penitence leading up to Easter, the celebration of Christ's resurrection.
