Renzi's popularity grows, 59% approval rating (ANSA) - Rome, March 14 - Support for center-left Premier Matteo Renzi was up 4% this week with 59% of Italians viewing him favorably, a survey by pollster Ixè said Friday. President Giorgio Napolitano was the second-most popular politician in Italy with a 40% approval rating, down 2%. Angelino Alfano, the center-right interior minister, received a 22% approval rating, up from 20% last week. Beppe Grillo, head of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), lost one point to 26%, as did three-time premier Berlusconi who dropped to 20%. As for parties, Renzi's Democratic Party (PD) remained the most popular at 31%, followed by the M5S and Berlusconi's Forza Italia.

Nearly one Italian in two is either undecided or chose not to answer. The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,000 people with a margin of error of +/- 3.1%.
