Mogherini says communications crucial over Ukraine crisis (ANSA) - Rome, March 13 - Italy's Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini said Thursday that her international counterparts have agreed on the need to keep channels of dialogue open with Moscow and Kiev on the crisis in Ukraine.

She spoke following a conference call with major international partners including the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Turkey and Poland as well as United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

"It was agreed to make every effort to ensure that the channels are open," particularly with the upcoming referendum Sunday on Crimea's future in Ukraine.

The conference call came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry also spoke, in preparation for face-to-face meetings on Friday.
