Senate adjourns session over absenteeism of parlamentarians

Mostly Senators with New Center Right and Forza Italia

Senate adjourns session over absenteeism of parlamentarians (ANSA) - Rome, March 12 - Senate Deputy Speaker Roberto Calderoli on Wednesday was forced to adjourn the Senate due to the absence of the legal number of Senators required for voting.

The Senate was adjourned to the afternoon after no quorum was reached in four consecutive sessions during the morning, mostly due to the absence of members of the New Center Right Party (NCD) in the government coalition and ex-premier's Silvio Berlusconi center-right Forza Italia in the opposition.

The Senate was voting on a draft law on amendments for controversial women MP quotas in upcoming European elections in May.
