Italian FM meets French EU minister in Rome (ANSA) - Rome, March 11 - Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini met in Rome Tuesday with French European Affairs Minister Thierry Repentin to discuss Italy's upcoming duty presidency of the European Union. The foreign ministry said the pair found "important points of convergence" with regard to policy in the Mediterranean, including immigration and defence. Premier Matteo Renzi made it clear the Mediterranean was an important part of Italy's foreign policy by making his first official foreign visit to Tunisia last week. "This centrality will be the fundamental point of our foreign and territorial policy and of Italy's EU presidency," Renzi said at a joint press conference with Tunisian Premier Mehdi Jomaa.

Italy's duty presidency begins July 1 and lasts for six months.
