House to hold secret vote on women quotas

Amendment slows Renzi's reform drive

House to hold secret vote on women quotas (see previous) (ANSA) - Rome, March 10 - The Lower House will hold a secret vote on whether to include an amendment to an election bill that would impose minimum quotas for women MPs, a committee overseeing the reform bill decided Monday. Under the bill, no more than 60% of the House could be composed of men. The measure has slowed ambitions of Premier Matteo Renzi, the central author of the bill, to pass the law quickly and secure his reputation as a fast-moving and effective reformer.
