Pope expresses concern for Syrian Christians
In talks with archbishop in Homs07 March, 17:02
The archbishop told Vatican Radio that he discussed with the pontiff the humanitarian crisis in Syria after almost three years of conflict and the suffering endured by Christian communities, often targeted by Islamic jihadists in the war-torn country.
During the meeting with the pope, which lasted roughly 15 minutes, Arbach reportedly spoke about the situation in Homs where ''deaths are reported every day'', as well as in Damascus and the rest of Syria.
The pontiff, he said, listened ''with great attention, giving me a sense of peace and tranquility'' and expressed support for the work of Christians in Syria and the entire Middle East.
