Kerry in Rome for Libya conference, holds talks on Ukraine (ANSA) - Rome, March 6 - United State Secretary of State John Kerry had an informal meeting with the foreign ministers of Italy, France and Germany and a British government representative in Rome on Thursday to discuss Russia's intervention in Ukraine.

An extraordinary summit of European Union leaders on the situation in Ukraine will take place in Brussels later on Thursday.

Kerry landed in Rome shortly after 9 am local time at the city's Ciampino airport to attend an international conference on Libya. He landed shortly after 9 am local time at the military airport of Ciampino.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also awaited in Rome, among others. Talks on the Ukrainian crisis kick started Wednesday in Paris are expected to resume on the sidelines of the conference on Libya.

Welcomed by US ambassadors to Italy and Libya, respectively John R. Phillips and Deborah K. Jones, the secretary of state, who travelled from Paris, will travel back to the US on Friday morning.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has also arrived in Rome, where he will meet his Italian counterpart Federica Mogherini, Kerry and Lavrov on the sidelines of the conference on Libya.

Before leaving for Rome, Lieberman said that, in peace negotiations with the Palestinians, Israel will not accept ''any condition'' to continue talks beyond their scheduled end in April, rejecting demands from Ramallah to freeze construction work in the settlements and to release more Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails.
