The Great Beauty 'most watched film in 10 years' (ANSA) - Rome, March 5 - Italy's Oscar winner The Great Beauty became the most-watched film in Italy in 10 years when it went out on Silvio Berlusconi's flagship Canale 5 network Tuesday night, Canale 5 said Wednesday.

Paolo Sorrentino's acclaimed Felliniesque picture of a jaded journalist surveying a decadent Rome had an average share of 36.12%, the channel said, luring an average 8.861 million viewers.

Some parts of the film saw over 12 million viewers tuning in, a share of over 40%.

The Great Beauty's first showing on Italian TV also created a Twitter boom with more than 700,000 tweets, rocketing it to the top of Italian trending topics. It was still 10th in Twitter trending Wednesday morning.
