Tuscany vows 3mn euros for Volterra's damaged Medieval wall (ANSA) - Florence, March 4 - Tuscany Governor Enrico Rossi on Tuesday announced his region will invest three million euros in emergency work in the town of Volterra, near Pisa, where the Medieval wall was severely damaged by heavy rainstorms. Rossi asked the central government to pledge another three million euros and reportedly discussed the issue with Culture Minister Enrico Franceschini and civil protection chief Franco Gabrielli.

A 30-metre-portion of the wall surrounding Volterra collapsed in January following torrential rain that engulfed Italy.

The section of the wall that embraces the historical section of the town just off Piazzetta dei Fornelli reportedly caved in after the wall supporting it collapsed.
