Suspected 'Ndrangheta boss 'like Bank of Italy,' says judge (see previous) (ANSA) - Milan, March 4 - The suspected boss of a Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia clan operating in northern Italy that was dismantled by police on Tuesday acted like a "kind of Bank of Italy", said a preliminary investigations judge citing one of the 30 people arrested.

Giuseppe Pensabene was thought to be at the head of the branch of the organisation based in Brianza in the northern Lombardy region that operated a sort of bank in order to launder money with the alleged help of corrupt local businessmen and bank and post office staff.

"Pensabene and his group operated like an authentic clandestine bank," the judge said.
