Matteo Renzi said Tuesday, citing Roberto Rossellini's
neorealist classic, saying the cash-strapped and troubled
government of the Italian capital should be marked by
"transparency and responsibility in this extraordinary city".
Renzi was tweeting back to Vanity Fair which asked him if
Rome's financial crisis and government bailout reminded him more
of Woody Allen's Take The Money And Run or Rossellini's
groundbreaking postwar film.
The government stepped in last week to bail out Rome after
Mayor Ignazio Marino threatened to bring the capital to a
standstill and pull the plug on the upcoming canonisations of
two past popes, John Paul II and John XXIII.
