Bulldozers at Spada Palace, setting for Great Beauty film

Bulldozers at Spada Palace, setting for Great Beauty film (ANSA) - Rome, March 4 - Construction work to build a parking lot below Rome's splendid 17th-century Palazzo Spada - where a number of scenes in Paolo Sorrentino's The Great Beauty were filmed - has raised concern that the magnificent building could be damaged. The president of the Lower House's environment commission Ermete Realacci on Tuesday asked Culture Minister Dario Franceschini to brief MPs on the work.

The 17th-century palace in Rome's historic centre includes a beautiful courtyard and is the home of a painting gallery with works by such luminaries as Tiziano, Caravaggio and Rubens.

Bought by the State in 1927, the palazzo currently houses the Council of State, Italy's highest administrative tribunal.
