Soccer: Code clear, Prandelli says after De Rossi dropped (ANSA) - Malpensa, March 3 - Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said Monday the Azzurri's ethical code had forced him to drop Daniele De Rossi from Wednesday's friendly against Spain after the Roma midfielder punched Inter striker Mauro Icardi during Sunday's 0-0 draw at the Olimpico.

"I'm the judge of certain acts. I don't want to get to the World Cup unprepared and find us with 10 on the field. That's why I can't accept reckless gestures," said Prandelli, who agreed the code of conduct with his players in November.

He recalled that he told the squad then that "I was going to be very attentive to (red-card offences), especially in games preceding call-ups. "The code is clear".

De Rossi's punch was caught on camera but not by the ref.

He faces a lengthy ban by Serie A's video-ref.
