Owner suspected in case concerning 8 tons of illicit cigarettes

Southern Italian restaurant raided in cigarette probe (ANSA) - Nola (Naples), February 28 - Italian finance police on Friday raided a well-known restaurant near Naples concerning a probe that unearthed eight tons of contraband cigarettes from Greece.

Investigators in the probe, which was based in the Tuscan coastal city of La Spezia, found that the intercepted cigarettes were allegedly meant to be delivered to the owner of Roccarainola, a restaurant located in the town of Nola, east of Naples.

The owner of the restaurant was placed under restriction of movement, while the owner's son was put under investigation.
