Soccer: Vatican's Clericus Cup set to return for eighth year (ANSA) - Rome, February 28 - The Vatican's famous Clericus Cup soccer tournament returns for its eighth season next week.

The competition, which pitches footballing priests and seminarians from different parts of the world into the fray on St. Peter's oratory ground, has grown in a big way since it was launched in 2007, both in terms of popularity and the standard of play.

This year 358 players from 60 countries will take part, most representing Pontifical Colleges in Rome, from March 8. The 16 teams will wear the slogan ''Il mio capitano è Papa Francesco' (Pope Francis Is My Captain) on their shirts.

The North American Martyrs, representing the Pontifical North American College, are defending their title, after winning the tournament last year and in 2012. http://popefrancisnewsapp.com/
