Foreign minister says Ukraine break-up 'worst-case scenario' (ANSA) - Rome, February 28 - Fragmentation in troubled Ukraine would be the "worst-case scenario," Italy's Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini said Friday.

"The territorial break-up of Ukraine would be the worst case scenario, (which) we must try to avoid," said Mogherini. "There is no alternative to inclusive dialogue," of the factions in Ukraine, said the minister, adding that this has been the consensus in conversations in recent days with colleagues from the European Union, United States, and Russia.

Earlier in the day, the deposed Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych apologized to his population for developments in Ukraine, and for not maintaining stability there. Yanukovych was ousted earlier this month, following months of political turmoil in Ukraine which turned into violent street clashed with scores of deaths.
