(ANSA) - Palermo, February 27 - Mafia boss Salvatore Riina
allegedly planned to have Rudolph Giuliani killed in the 1980s
when the former mayor of New York held the position of the
city's chief federal prosecutor, according the information
provided by a Cosa Nostra turncoat.
Rosario Naimo provided the information to prosecutors on
the Southern Italian island of Sicily that are currently
investigating possible State-mafia negotiations.
Riina, also known as the "Boss of Bosses" for his position
in the Mafia hierarchy, is currently in jail.
In November, he allegedly made fresh threats against
Palermo Deputy Prosecutor Nino Di Matteo from behind bars.
Riina was captured in 1993 and is already serving several
life sentences for crimes including the 1992 assassinations of
anti-Mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
