Pope Francis stops to kiss small boy dressed in papal style (ANSA) - Vatican City, February 26 - Pope Francis was so taken with a small boy dressed in a papal ensemble at Wednesday's general audience in St. Peter's Square that he stopped to kiss the child.

The boy, who appeared to be about four years old, was dressed in a small white cassock and skull cap just as the pope wears, while other children dressed in various costumes to mark the annual carnival celebration often held in the days before the pre-Easter Lent season.

Some children were dressed as clowns, bees, ladybugs and even Robin Hood as their parents brought them to the Vatican.

During the carnival period, children are often seen wearing their costumes to school, church and other outings.

The boy dressed as pope cried and fussed before Francis lifted him for a kiss.
