Padoan calls for changes to improve Italian tax system
Economy minister says fixes coming to encourage growth26 February, 19:23
In his first appearance before the Lower House, Padoan said it was crucial that the new government of Premier Matteo Renzi, which won two confidence votes on Tuesday, makes the kinds of changes that provide more certainty in the tax system.
That, in turn, will boost confidence and encourage economic development as well as business investment, he said.
"In this period of weak recovery, the government is committed to removing the uncertainty," said Padoan, who resigned as chief economist of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on the weekend to take the cabinet position.
