The Roman prosecutor's office believes Angelo Giuliani had an illicit role in awarding a public contract for street-cleaning services after traffic accidents to the Sicurezza e Ambiente (SEA - Safety and Environment) company. Three people associated with the company were also placed under house arrest.
The former director general of State broadcaster Rai, Alfredo Meocci, is also under investigation in relation to the case.
Meocci is suspected of helping SEA win the contract in his role as a member of an authority on public tenders.
