It was the first time a premier has used a computer while sitting in his allocated position in the House, although lawmakers frequently use their computers during parliamentary debates.

Renzi only had notes on the desk in front of him during Monday's debate on the Senate ahead of a confidence vote there, although he used his smart phone frequently and it had to be recharged by parliamentary assistants several times.
