Italian army instructor indicted on sexual assault charges (ANSA) - Ascoli Piceno, February 25 - Prosecutors in the central Italian town of Ascoli Piceno on Tuesday requested the indictment of an army officer on charges of aggravated sexual assault and abuse of office.

Female soldiers reported the former instructor at the 235th Regiment, which trains Navy and Air Force cadets, of continuously humiliating them both verbally and physically.

The corporal, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly forced one cadet to mime oral sex with a stuffed animal. He also allegedly kicked, punched, pinched, slapped and beat female cadets with a plastic rod during training.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for May 22.
