Metalworking production in Italy down 2.7% in 2013 over 2012

Italy's 2013 output was 30.4% below 2008 levels, compared to an EU average of -13% for the same five-year period, according to an economic survey issued by the industrialists' group.
Germany almost returned to pre-crisis metalworking production levels, at -1.9% in the last quarter, followed by the UK, which is still down 4.6% compared to 2008 levels.
Metalworking production in France and Spain are 20.7% and 37.6% below 2008 levels, respectively.
Italy has lost 25% of its installed production capacity in recent years, meaning that to return to pre-crisis levels, new plants will need to be built, Federmeccanica said.
Utilization of Italy's current metalworking capacity is about 71.6%, whereas its pre-crisis utilization was about 80%.
