Renzi cabinet to include 16, half to be women, say sources
Premier-designate Renzi to shrink size of new Italian cabinet21 February, 15:26
Renzi was busy putting together a cabinet to present to parliament for confidence votes on Monday and Tuesday.
Sources say the 16 cabinet members will include Angelino Alfano, leader of the junior government partner, the New Centre Right (NCD). Alfano, outgoing interior minister and deputy premier, has reportedly agreed to drop the latter portfolio while Pier Carlo Padoan, former chief economist of the OECD, will be named as Italy's economy minister, sources say.
Renzi's cabinet will boast more than one-quarter fewer members compared with that of his precedessor, Enrico Letta, who had 21 ministers when he formed government 10 months ago.
Renzi was expected to submit his cabinet list to President Giorgio Napolitano Friday evening.
