Over 2 bln euros in social service costs, rest in suffering

Violence against women 'costs Italy 17 billion euros a year' (ANSA) - Trento, February 19 - Violence on women ends up costing Italy, the eurozone's third-largest economy, some 17 billion euros a year, according to a study carried out by not-for-profit organization Intervita in 2012 and released in Northern Italy on Wednesday.

Of the total, 2.3 billion euros are related to social services costs and 14 billion euros are tied to human costs and suffering, the Intervita document showed.
