Majority will stay the same says Renzi
PD will be backed by NCD says premier-designate19 February, 14:44
(ANSA) - Rome, February 19 - Premier-designate Matteo Renzi said Wednesday his new government would be supported by the same majority as the last one of his Democratic Party (PD) colleague Enrico Letta, with the New Centre Right (NCD) as junior partner.
PD leader Renzi, who torpedoed Letta last week, has reportedly been set conditions by NCD leader Angelino Alfano, the outgoing deputy premier.
Renzi called the NCD reform programme, which also reportedly rejected a wealth tax and called for a justice minister to defend suspects' rights, "very good and positive".
The NCD split from Silvio Berlusconi's revived Forza Italia party when it rejected the three-time premier's bid to scupper Letta after the PD insisted on a Senate ban for the media magnate after a tax-fraud conviction.
The PD is now by far the biggest coalition partner.
Renzi said he would give President Giorgio Napolitano his government formation on Saturday ahead of a confidence vote Monday.
