Avalanche alert sounded throughout Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Warning ranks danger at 4 out of maximum 519 February, 16:34
Current storms are bringing snow to altitudes of over 1,600 m in the Italian Alps and 1,800 m in the Prealps, and up to those altitudes, the snowpack is heavily weighed down by free water, which also infiltrates inner layers.
Above 1600 m, abundant new snow is falling fast on already thick layers of accumulated snow. Medium to large avalanches could occur on any road where avalanche conditions have been identified in the past.
Above 1800 m, even small overloads can trigger avalanche in at-risk areas, the bulletin warned.
