Consultations with parties over forming govt to start Tuesday

Renzi vows electoral reforms by end of February (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, February 17 - Premier-in-waiting Matteo Renzi on Monday vowed to complete electoral reforms by the end of February, followed "immediately afterward by labor reforms in March, public-administration reforms in April and fiscal (reforms) in May". Renzi was speaking after receiving a government-formation mandate from President Giorgio Napolitano.

"I accepted (the mandate) with reserve...and I assured him we will put all of our commitment behind this difficult situation," said Renzi.

Consultations with political parties to form a new government will start Tuesday, he added. An election reform bill he negotiated with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi is scheduled to go before the House Tuesday. Slowness to enact such reforms was at the crux of his criticism of outgoing Premier Enrico Letta.
