"Politics is not dirty, ugly, something to avoid," said the 39-year-old, who is set to become Italy's youngest premier after being given a mandate to form a new government from President Giorgio Napolitano on Monday.

"It's about responding to people's dreams," he added at a meeting of the Florence city council in his last address as the Tuscan city's major before he steps down to take the helm of government.
