Renzi set to head for Rome later on Sunday (see related stories) (ANSA) - Florence, February 16 - Democratic Party (PD) leader Matteo Renzi, who is expected to be given a mandate from President Giorgio Napolitano to try to form a new government in the coming days, is set to travel from Florence to Rome later on Sunday.

The 39-year-old mayor of Florence, who is likely to become Italy's youngest premier, had a meeting with Diego Della Valle, the owner of the Tod's shoe empire and of the city's Serie A soccer team Fiorentina, early on Sunday.

He was also with Della Valle on Saturday to see Fiorentina's 2-1 home defeat to Inter Milan.

Renzi went to midday mass with his wife and children, having moved around Florence in the morning in a small two-seater Smart car.
