Renzi, Alfano may meet on Sunday
PD leader needs interior min's support to form new govt16 February, 14:44
Renzi, 39, is expected to take over the reins of government after pulling the PD's support this week for the coalition administration of outgoing Premier Enrico Letta, his party colleague, who resigned on Friday.
But Alfano warned earlier on Sunday that if the demands of his New Centre Right (NCD) party were not met, Renzi would not become premier.
The PD, the biggest group in parliament, needs the support of the NCD in the Senate with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI) party and the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) set to remain in opposition.
Renzi, who is also mayor of Florence, spent the morning in his home city, but is set to travel to Rome later on Sunday.
He had a meeting with Diego Della Valle, the owner of the Tod's shoe empire and of the city's Serie A soccer team Fiorentina, early on Sunday.
Renzi also went to midday mass with his wife and children, having moved around Florence in the morning in a small two-seater Smart car.
