'Words can kill,' pope warns (ANSA) - Vatican City, February 16 - Pope Francis gave the latest in a series of criticisms of people who gossip in his Angelus address on Sunday, warning that words can kill.

"I'm convinced that if we plan to avoid gossiping, we become holy," the Argentine pontiff told a big crowd in St Peter's Square.

"I ask you to make the resolution not to live around gossip. "Jesus reminds us that even words can kill. So it's not enough to not harm the life of your neighbour, you also must not pour onto him the poison of anger or hit him with slander".
