(ANSA) - Rome, February 15 - Italian police working on an anonymous tip-off on Saturday found the body of a 94-year-old woman in a freezer in the home she shared with her 51-year-old son in the town of Delianuova near Reggio Calabria.

The son, said to be a craftsman, told police she had died of natural causes and he hid her body in order to keep drawing her pension.

Pathologists said that though the body was completely frozen it appeared to show no signs of violence.

The man was cautioned for fraud and hiding a cadaver pending the outcome of tests.

Neighbours told police they had not seen Maria Musitano for about a year and the son, whose initials were given as I.D., had never explained why she no longer came out.

Police said there was a strong bad smell in the house.
