Italian economy needs more work, says Audit Court

Improving financial conditions do not spell full recovery

Italian economy needs more work, says Audit Court (ANSA) - Rome, February 14 - There is still much work to be done to bring Italy's struggling economy back to health, the head of the country's Audit Court said Friday.

A lowering of interest rates is a good sign but does not mean that the economy is back on its feet, warned Raffaele Squitieri, president of the court.

"The signs of easing of financial tensions do not rule out the fact that much work remains to be done to revive the economy," said Squitieri.

"The economic environment is still difficult," he added.

The Italian economy is finally emerging from its deepest recession since the post-war period.
