Former judge among seven 'Ndrangheta arrests (ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, February 14 - A former judge was among seven people arrested Friday in a probe into Calabria's 'Ndrangheta mafia.

Former preliminary investigations judge Giancarlo Giusti was already under house arrest in an anti-mafia probe in Milan, where 'Ndrangheta has grown increasingly strong in recent years.

In the latest probe, Giusti is suspected of pocketing 100,000 euros for releasing several leading 'Ndrangheta members in 2009.

Friday's operation was against a clan based near Europe's largest container port at Gioa Tauro, the scene of regular 'Ndrangheta busts.

The arrests took place in the Calabrian cities of Rosarno and Montepaone Lido near Catanzaro; Avellino and Benevento near Naples; and Milan.
