14 February, 12:29
EU confident of Italy reform desire (ANSA) - Brussels, February 14 - The European Commission on Friday said it was confident of Italy's determination and ability to press on with fiscal-consolidation reforms as a new government comes in.

"We will continue to work with Italy in view of the six-month (duty presidency) of the EU," starting from July 1, EC Spokesperson Pia Ahrenkilde said.

Democratic Party (PD) leader and Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi is expected to take over from PD colleague Enrico Letta and, like Letta, has said he wants to shift policy focus from austerity to growth.
