(ANSA) - Turin, February 12 - The Turin prosecutor's office
has opened an inquiry into cars imported from China with parts
The investigation, which is currently in a preliminary
phase, focuses on some models produced by the largest carmaker
in China, Great Wall Motors.
The automaker was one of two Chinese companies forced to
recall 23,000 of their vehicles sold in Australia in mid-2012
after authorities found the potentially cancer-causing material
in some models.
The asbestos may be in the exhaust gaskets.
The judge will assess whether there are grounds to move
forward with legal proceedings for violation of the 1992 law
prohibiting the import of products containing asbestos.
