Man, 70, kills self after tax agency threat to seize house (ANSA) - Pescara, February 12 - A man threatened with having his house impounded because of an unpaid tax bill committed suicide Tuesday.

The man, 70, separated from his wife and children, shot himself in the face in the Abruzzo town of Elice near Pescara after being served with a seizure notice by tax agency Equitalia. The man was said to have suffered from depression in the past but friends and relatives blamed his suicide on his economic problems.

He recently received notice that his house would be repossessed, they said.

The man shot himself with a 12-calibre rifle he had a license for.

Police took the weapon for tests.
