Capone bought the sprawling, 1,000-square-meter waterfront compound in 1928 for $40,000. He died there in 1947, after being released from Alcatraz.

The baby blue mansion sits on exclusive Palm Island, sandwiched in Biscayne Bay between downtown Miami's skyscrapers and South Beach's hotel district.

It remained in the gangster's family until the 1970s. The current owner, a Florida company managed by New York accountant Anthony Panebianco, purchased it six months ago.
