Veneto hit by new round of storms, millions in damages (ANSA) - Venice, February 6 - Italy's northeastern Veneto region is being hit by another round of bad weather after the latest series of storms led to one person dead, 500 evacuated from their homes, and millions of euros in damage to property, agriculture and houses.

The area of Battaglia Terme in the province of Padua has been under a meter and a half of water in recent days, triggering mass evacuations. Another series of upcoming storms are generating alarm for an area weather experts calculate has been exposed to some 300% more rain in this period compared to the normal annual average. Veneto Governor Luca Zaia on Thursday met with Italian Premier Enrico Letta to request emergency funds. Italy's Coldiretti agriculture association said there are more than 30,000 animals in the region at risk of drowning, with 12,000 chicks already dead. Agriculture damage is estimated at 10 million euros, Coldiretti said.
