Jail overcrowding decree passes House, now to Senate (ANSA) - Rome, February 6 - Italy's Lower House on Thursday approved a controversial measure aimed at easing prison overcrowding by releasing thousands of non-serious offenders. The vote paves the way for what is likely to be a similar approval process in the Senate.

Thursday's vote in the Lower House saw the bill passed with 296 votes in favour, 183 against and two abstentions.
